The 5kW Solar system size used to be the most popular system size a few years back. Regardless it is still a very flexible system size and should be able to provide you with a cool 18kWh on the daily. A 5kW Solar system is usually paired with 14 to 17 Solar panels (depending on the wattage of the Solar panels offered; you only need 14 of the 370w Solar panels to get 5kW) and a 5kW inverter. The entire package would include 14 to 17 CEC Approved Solar panels, a 5kW CEC Approved inverter (Single or Three Phase), Roof Mounting and Electrical Kit approved for use in Australia.
To decide if this is the right system size for you; we firstly need to find out what your average daily consumption of electricity is. This information is readily available on your latest quarterly power bill. If your average daily consumption falls between 14 to 22kWh (see below 5KW SYSTEM OUTPUT IN MAJOR CITIES Table); the 5kW system would be a good fit. As in the 6.6kW Solar system would on average generate a similar amount of energy respective to what you are using daily.
To ensure you are able to maximise the return from the Solar system it is recommended that you audit your current electricity usage habits. Once you have identified activities that consume a significant amount of power (such as washing machine, dishwasher, dryer etc) action a plan that will ensure these appliances and activities are only being conducted when the sun is out. (Note: try not to have heavy appliances all running at the same time; spread out the timing to ensure the Solar system is able to meet your power needs)

All existing PV Systems can now have Battery Storage Systems installed, thanks to the introduction of AC Coupling. This allows you to hook a battery upto any property as it connects straight to the main power supply. But do keep in mind that Battery backup options are fairly expensive and tend to significantly increase your back period. Our system was installed back in 2019 and after around six years of operation the inverter developed a fault. I submitted a warranty claim and Nathan from Captain Green Solar handled the process. I got 13kw panels and 42kw battery through Captain Green. I am very happy with the service from Ron and Richard. Ron was always prompt will communication. Price was competitive. We recently had a 42kwh battery added to our existing 10kw solar panels by Captain Green Solar. We found that navigating the many suppliers and sorting through the honest prices and information and the misleading advertised prices and information from various suppliers and trying to sort out which was which was really difficult! I enquired to Captain Green Solar and dealt with “Evie”, I found her to be really helpful, she answered all my questions completely, even a couple of curly questions I had where she had to seek clarification from her team, this was really appreciated as she went out of her way to honestly answer my queries and not just “make up” the answers. The work was carried out promptly to a good, neat standard. The system has been in for around 6 weeks, and although we have not yet seen a bill, the charging, battery capacity and power usage are clear to monitor on the easy to use app. Really happy, seems like, depending on the solar activity, we are going to enjoy very small power bills from here on.
